Hiking the GR-65 in France to Join the Camino de Santiago

Hiking the GR-65 can be a classic route to Southwestern France.  The route in blue is suggested by this hotel in the region.

I walked a more southern route recommended by a local guide through Arudy, Oloron-Sainte-Marie. Mauléon-Licharre and Ordiarp.  The countryside is rural and perhaps more pleasant than the route marked in blue on this map.  A hiker could also start at Pau where there’s an airport and walk south, south-west.  Don’t forget to study up to date topographical maps before setting off on foot.
